Workshop on effective operation of public employment services

Under the European Union Support for District Development Programme (EU-SDDP) ILO organised a workshop to help DME staff to plan their long term goals and future development of the labour force of the country.

Background 

ILO SKILLED project supported the Department of Manpower and Employment (DME) of Ministry of Labour, Trade Union Relations and Sabaragamuwa Development in establishing 4 district Public Employment Services (PES) centers in the Batticaloa, Ampara, Vavuniya and Mannar Districts.
The programme supported the strengthening of the PES staff capacity through training programmes on career guidance and enterprise development. In order to increase the efficiency of the PES operation and create sustainable employment services in the districts this workshop has been proposed.
This workshop will help DME head office staff also to plan their long term goals and plan for the future development of the labour force of the country. The workshop will have 35 participants.

Programme Objectives:

The following objectives will be achieved through this workshop:
  • To have skilled PES staff on Employment Services
  • To ensure the effective delivery of Employment services of their respective districts.
  • To ensure sustainability of district PES center operations under the Department of Manpower and Employment (DME) of Sri Lanka and recommend future Actions to DME as the Project exit strategy.
