ILO – Maga – NAITA hold Construction Craftsman Awarding Ceremony

The award ceremony for 95 youth who successfully completed the new six months Construction Craftsman training scheme, will be held at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training on December 29 2015.

The scheme, an initiative of International Labour Organization (ILO) and Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, the National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, represents a new and innovative way to deliver- in a shorter than normal time span- National Vocational Qualification at level 2 and 3 as accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission. Following an open call from all districts, the participants were screened based on their aptitude and provided with theoretical lectures and practical on-the-job training sessions covering up to eleven different modules over a 6 month period within two MAGA construction sites. Trainers and experienced employees mentored the trainees which had the opportunity to practice in a prime construction site warranting occupational health and safety, while being formally employed.

It is an example of a private-public partnership, providing not only training but also immediate employment opportunities, together with a sense of respect and social importance and acceptance to young masons in an industry that is facing severe shortage of qualified personnel.
