Labour Institutes from India and Sri Lanka sign MOU, facilitated by ILO

On 13 November 2009, the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, India and the National Institute for Labour Studies (NILS), Sri Lanka, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the purpose of strengthening their collaboration.

ILO Colombo facilitated a study tour to India in 2007 for three officials from the newly established NILS to visit two Indian labour institutes and study their set-up and operations, curricula and training programme etc. with a view to build the NILS in Sri Lanka.

The Directors from the two institutes signed the MOU in the presence of the Minister for Labour Relations and Manpower, Hon. Athauda Seneviratne M.P., Mr. Shri Santosh Jha, Counsellor (Economic and Commerce), the High Commission of India, Colombo and Ms. Tine Staermose, Director ILO Colombo.

During the course of the next couple of days, a joint Action Plan is being developed between the two institutes.
