Tripartite seminar on the eight core conventions of the ILO in Male - Republic of Maldives

The ILO Colombo in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports convened a tripartite seminar in Male on the eight core conventions of the ILO with the aim of identifying ways forward for ratification. The inaugural session was attended by the Vice-president, the Minister for Human Resources, Youth and Sports, the Minister for Economic Development and the Attorney General.

Taking forward the National Labour Migration Policy for Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare has taken steps to carry forward the National Labour Migration Policy by establishing a High Level Advisory Committee consisting of key Ministries, Recruitment Industry, Trade Unions and civil society organizations to oversee the implementation of the National Policy.

Sri Lanka celebrates ILO’s 90 years working for social justice

The ILO Country Office in Sri Lanka celebrated the 90th anniversary of the creation of the ILO with a number of high-level activities. In August 2008, a tripartite steering committee comprising of the Government, ILO, Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and the workers’ organizations was established under the chairpersonship of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Manpower, for planning the events in lieu of the ILO’s 90th anniversary.

The ILO Office in Sri Lanka being a technical corporation agency seeks to enhance the capacity of employers, workers and the Ministry of Labour Relations and Manpower (MOLR&MP) to plan and implement policies and programmes for prevention of HIV/AIDS in workplaces through its ILO/USDOL International HIV/AIDS Workplace Education Program.
