Thirteenth National Convention on Women’s Studies

The National Convention on Women’s Studies organized by the Centre for Women’s Research (CENWOR) was held from the 27th – 30th July 2012. The inauguration was at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI). This is the thirteenth in the series, which CENWOR started in 1989 to provide a forum for those conducting research on gender issues to present their findings.

The National Convention on Women’s Studies organized by the Centre for Women’s Research (CENWOR) was held from the 27th – 30th July 2012. The inauguration was at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI). This is the thirteenth in the series, which CENWOR started in 1989 to provide a forum for those conducting research on gender issues to present their findings.

The sessions covered a wide range of topics that will include the economy, gender based violence, law, literature, education and higher education, conflict, environment, social issues, theoretical issues, media, information technology and health.

The papers presented were by academics, researchers and activists who have been working on these issues for several years. Most of these papers address current issues that have policy implications.

The keynote address on the opening day was delivered by Mrs. Thetis Mangahas, ILO Acting Regional Director, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok.
