Amid COVID-19 crisis, ILO and ACS discuss renewed cooperation

Both the ILO and ACS renewed their commitment to the development of joint actions and projects that would generate broad-based benefits for the region and contribute to sustainable economic development and the promotion of employment and decent work for all.

The Association of Caribbean States (ACS), through the Directorate for Cooperation and Resource Mobilization (DCRM) and under the stewardship of the Director Ingrid Anabella Jacobs, organized a virtual meeting on 28 March 2022 with Director, ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, Mr. Dennis Zulu and Mr. Lars Johansen, Deputy Director.

The objective was to discussed common areas of cooperation that will lead to further development of mutually beneficial partnership to amplify positive impacts of ILO programmes and projects in the region.

Ms. Ingrid Jacobs, stressed that an integrated approach to the work by both organizations would yield positive benefits for the region since the partnership will continue to be guided by common principles of both organizations which aim to improve the future of work for the Caribbean region.

Speaking on behalf of ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, Deputy Director, Mr. Lars Johansen shared important information regarding climate change and the labour market that would help in formulating future initiatives. “Joint work will help both organizations to undertake interventions in the areas of climate change, green jobs, blue economy, MSME’s, sustainable tourism, and gender inclusion,” he stated.

During the meeting Mr Zulu emphasized that cooperation through the development of initiatives, programmes and projects, including those on the Association’s agenda in the areas of trade, sustainable tourism, transport, disaster risk reduction and environment protection were also of interest to ILO.

Both the ILO and ACS renewed their commitment to the development of joint actions and projects that would generate broad-based benefits for the region and contribute to sustainable economic development and the promotion of employment and decent work for all.

The meeting was also attended by Johakson Moncada, Research Assistant of the DCRM.
