14 December 2020 (Lima, Peru) -- The International Labour Organization (ILO) will release the newest edition of its flagship report, The 2020 Labour Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean, on Thursday 17 December at 11:00 am Eastern Caribbean time.

This year’s annual publication will feature data and analysis on the unprecedented effects on employment in the region caused by COVID-19.
The ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean has emphasized that the world of work is going through an unparalleled crisis, and undoubtedly the worst that has been documented by the annual Labour Overview Report since it was first published in 1994.

The 2020 Labour Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean will be presented during a press conference by Vinícius Pinheiro, Director of the ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Fabio Bertranou, Director of the ILO Office for the South Cone of Latin America, who is in charge of ILO research in the region. ILO specialists who prepared the report will also participate.

Featured data will include a focus on employment, unemployment and other indicators that reflect how COVID-19 is affecting labour markets. It also includes a special section on country responses and the challenges facing the region in the immediate future.

The publication will be circulated among ILO partners (governments and employers' and workers' organizations), academics, labour researchers and other audiences interested in information and systematic analysis on the regional labour market.

The ILO Regional Office uses the most recent data available (third quarter of 2020) from official sources in each country to prepare The 2020 Labour Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean. The data is collected and processed by the Panama-based ILO System of Labour Information and Analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean (SIALC-ILO).
