NCPD, in collaboration with ILO, to host Training Workshop entitled Employment of Persons with Disabilities: Reasonable Accommodation

The Workshop will analyze the current situation of people with disabilities in the context of decent work related policy issues from national, regional and international perspectives. It will identify actions that will lead to significant improvements in the situation.

The National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean is conducting a training workshop on Employment of Persons with Disabilities: Reasonable Accommodation

The workshop will analyze the current situation of people with disabilities in the context of decent work related policy issues from national, regional and international perspectives. It will identify actions that will lead to significant improvements in the situation.

The focus of the workshop will be on reasonable accommodation to assist employers in their efforts to employ and retain persons with disabilities. It will also address how education and training, and other agencies/organizations can facilitate persons with disabilities to transition to decent employment.

To this end, the workshop will familiarize participants with relevant United Nations Conventions, and other policy documents concerning education and training, employment and inclusive workplace policies for persons with disabilities. These include the following:
  • ILO Convention 159 and its accompanying Recommendation;
  • Code of Practice for Managing Disabilities in the Workplace;
  • UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
  • Recommendation 195 on Human Resources Education and Training, and
  • Guide on Promoting Diversity and Inclusion through Workplace Adjustments.
At the conclusion of the training workshop, a committee will be constituted to strengthen placement services between NCPD and employers, including employment services in Trinidad and Tobago.
