ILO hosts OSHE training workshop for OECS labour inspectors

The Workshop is one of the activities of the ILO's Programme on Occupational Safety and Health and Environment (OSHE) in the Caribbean which was initiated in January 2011.

The International Labour Organization, Office for the Caribbean, and the Ministry of National Security and Labour, Antigua and Barbuda, will jointly host a regional training Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health and the Environment for labour inspectors from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. The Workshop will be held from 22-24 June 2011 at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. Senator the Honourable Dr. Errol Cort, Minister of National Security and Labour will deliver the feature address at the Opening Ceremony.

The Workshop is one of the activities of the ILO's Programme on Occupational Safety and Health and Environment (OSHE) in the Caribbean which was initiated in January 2011. The Programme aims to support governments as well as employers' and workers' organizations in their efforts to improve occupational safety and health at the enterprise and national levels and to contribute to environmental sustainability of Small Island Developing States. The Programme draws on regional and international expertise. A Team of OSHE Resource Persons from across the region, including representatives of academic and other institutions, has been established to provide valuable guidance and also deliver services for the implementation of the work plan for the ILO OSHE Programme.

The Workshop, which is also open to representatives of employers' and workers' organizations of the OECS, will cover topics such as Occupational Safety and Health legislation, inspection techniques, OSH hazards, report writing, accident investigation and industrial hygiene. The main facilitator of the workshop is Anthony Rocheford, OSH Consultant. Other facilitators will include representatives of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, United Nations Development Programme - Barbados, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization and the International Labour Organization.
