Training of Trainers Workshop on Labour Inspection With Focus on Child Labour

This support is being provided in the context of the ongoing ILO-Brazil South-South Cooperation project for Support to the Caribbean Countries Members of the Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour.Technical Assistance to Caribbean States by the Government of Brazil, in the area of School-to-work transitions.

Context: 

The ILO and Government of Brazil are pleased to be providing technical assistance and funding to the Ministry of Labour and Social Services of Jamaica, to host a 5-day national Training of Trainers Workshop on Labour Inspection, with a focus on Child Labour. This support is being provided in the context of the ongoing ILO-Brazil South-South Cooperation project for Support to the Caribbean Countries Members of the Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour.   In addition to technical expertise from the Ministry of Labour of Brazil and the ILO, financial support has been provided to the Ministry by the ILO-Brazil Partnership Programme for the Promotion of South-South Cooperation, to facilitate the participation of officials from Guyana, the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago in this national workshop.

Objectives of the training:

  • To build the capacity of Labour Inspectorates in Jamaica and other participating countries (the Bahamas, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago) to design and deliver local training programmes on Labour Inspection to address Child Labour.
  • To promote a better understanding of the role of labour inspection in prevention and elimination of child labour and in the enforcement of national laws on child labour
  • To share good practices and lessons learnt from the programmes and experiences of Brazil
  • To promote and encourage systematic South-South cooperation as a modality for effective development interventions in the Caribbean Region
