    “Ukraine works!” 5-year ILO project closes with improved occupational health and safety standards and more effective State Labour Inspectorate

    The EU-funded project provided assistance to strengthen the Ukrainian State Labour Inspection with the long-term objective of contributing to a safe, healthy and declared work in Ukraine. In addition, the project had to respond to some of the challenges posed by the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. It informed Ukrainian refugees about the danger of forced labour and human trafficking, helped enterprises with business continuity during martial law, and piloted psychosocial support for workers.

    New project signed to assist Ukraine with new labour code and better compliance with International Labour Standards

    With support from Canada, the ILO launched a 2-year project that will promote compliance with fundamental principles and rights at work throughout the process of modernizing labour legalisation in Ukraine.

    ILO SCORE Programme in Albania

    The ILO SCORE (Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises) Programme, funded by Sweden, trained 7 local trainers and worked with 9 companies in the clothing, textile and footwear sector in Albania. The SCORE Programme improves productivity and working conditions in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The key intervention of the programme is the SCORE Training, which combines practical classroom training with in-factory consulting. The Training demonstrates best international practice in the manufacturing and service sectors and helps SMEs to participate in global supply chains.

    Decent working conditions

    ILO and Sweden sign project extension to advance digitalisation of the Labour Inspection in Kosovo

    On 6 April 2023, the ILO signed an agreement with Sweden for extending the project on improving occupational safety and health (OSH) in Kosovo* through the digitalization of the Labour Inspectorate. The project will run until March 2025.

    Decent work outcomes in supply chains

    Fair global supply chains: In Serbia, ILO and GIZ collaborate to improve grievance mechanisms

    Violations of human rights, as well as social and environmental standards continue to occur in global supply chains. Workers are often unable to report breaches of labour rights or industry practices detrimental to occupational safety and health. The Initiative for Global Solidarity of Germany wants to change this by developing complaint mechanisms in German companies’ supply chains. The ILO, with support from German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), will work on improving the system of mediation and grievance in Serbian enterprises.

    “Jobs for all” - European Union and Sweden pledge five million euros in support of employment of young women and the hard-to-employ in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    The new project “EU4Employment”, introduced to the public on 27 February 2023 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be implemented by the ILO with a budget of four million euros from the European Union and one million euros from Sweden.
