    Healthcare workers urgently need upgraded working conditions, safety and health protection against COVID-19 in Ukraine

    Health workers are at the forefront of the global fight against the COVID-19. In Ukraine, however, they face serious challenges in occupational health and safety and working conditions. On 16 April 2021, the ILO and WHO jointly organized a webinar to discuss the key challenges health workers face and to advocate for the implementation of a national occupational health and safety programme.

    The importance of learning new skills has never been as evident as in the last year. Almost overnight, all of the global workforce had to admit they faced challenges with their digital skills. We had to switch to new ways of managing work and doing business, of participating in learning and delivering education and training to young people and adults alike. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education and skills development systems has been profound. Teachers, coordinators and policy makers discovered the challenges, but also the opportunities of applying digital learning technologies.

  4. Protecting human rights of refugees and asylum seekers in the context of HIV and sexual orientation in Ukraine

    Asylum seekers and refugees are entitled to all the rights and fundamental freedoms spelled out in international human rights instruments. This includes the right to protection if they have HIV, TB or have a different sexual orientation and identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or questioning (LGBTIQ). In 2020, the UNHCR and ILO, with support from UNAIDS, implemented a virtual capacity-building project targeting the staff of the State Migration Service (SMS) in Ukraine that deals with refugees and asylum seekers.

    The country studies of the report describe the legal frameworks of collective bargaining in Germany and Ukraine, the main actors including the state, the actual levels of bargaining and the articulation between these levels, the coverage by collective agreements, the content of the agreements and also soft factors like trust among social partners. They also contain case studies on collective bargaining in two sectors: the metal and construction industries.

    This is the first set of the EU-ILO Project technical recommendations to the SLS draft legal act “Technical Regulation of Workers’ Safety and Health Signs”, aimed at transposing to the internal juridical order of Ukraine the EU Council Directive 92/58/EEC, of 24 June 1992, on the minimum requirements for the provision of safety and/or health signs at work.
