Screening of 'Sold'

To raise awareness of human trafficking and children’s rights, the United Nations and Time for Equality present the screening of Sold.

To raise awareness of human trafficking and children’s rights, the United Nations and Time for Equality present the screening of "Sold", a film by Jeffrey D. Brown, an adaptation of the globally acclaimed novel by Patricia McCormick.

The screening will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with:
  • Irene Wintermayr, Policy Officer at ILO-Brussels;
  • Fabienne Rossler, Secretary General Consultative Human Rights Committee, Luxembourg and author of the March 2017 report - Rapport sur la traite des êtres humains au Luxembourg Années 2014-2016; and
  • Thomas Kaufmann, Executive Director of ECPAT Luxembourg.
Based on a true story, SOLD is the story of Lakshmi who journeys from a pastoral, rural village in Nepal to a gritty brothel/prison called 'Happiness House' in Kolkata, India. Through one extraordinary girl’s story, SOLD illustrates the brutality of child trafficking, which affects millions of children around the globe every year. Globally the average age of a trafficked girl is thirteen, the same age as the girl in the film.

The event will take place on Tuesday 19 June at 19:00, at the University of Luxembourg, Limpertsberg Campus, Bâtiment des Sciences (BSC) Room E00-003. Registration starts at 18:30. The event will be held in English and is free of charge.
