Conference “The European – Arab International Cooperation: a common agenda for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”

On 14 December, the ILO Office participated in a conference on European-Arab cooperation on disabilities. Participating in the panel on the post 2015 development framework, the ILO Office underlined the longstanding ILO commitment towards workers and jobseekers with disabilities based on specific ILO standards and actions.

The ILO Office also presented the new ILO orientations for promoting inclusion of persons with disabilities as discussed at the November 2012 session of the ILO Governing Body.

The conference was organized by the European Disability Forum and the Arab Organisation of Persons with Disabilities, in cooperation with the European Economic and Social Committee. It took place in the context of the “MUSAWA II” project, funded by the Spanish government, which aims at promoting dialogue between European and Arab disability organisations.

The conference explored the position of disability in the current international cooperation policy of the EU, the cooperation between the EU and Arab countries, and the lessons that could be learnt.
