Council of the European Union

The ministers of the EU Member States meet within the Council of the European Union. Depending on the agenda, each EU Member State will be represented by the minister responsible for the discussed subject (finance, social affairs, etc.).

The presidency of the Council of the European Union is held for six months by each Member State on a rotational basis. To provide continuity in the work of the EU, three successive presidencies of the Council of the European Union - known as Trio of Presidencies - cooperate for a period of eighteen months based on a common work plan. The presidency of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on the contrary is permanently held by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The Council of the European Union, following the proposals of the European Commission, firmly supports the promotion of decent work for all, reinforcing the social dimension of globalization and the promotion of fundamental social rights at work.
