New Belgian ratifications of ILO Conventions

The ILO-Brussels office welcomes the renewed ratification efforts by Belgium on up-to-date ILO Conventions, following a prolonged period of inactivity. Employers and workers in the Belgian National Labour Council insisted on the importance of ratifications as federal and regional laws and practices are in conformity with the ILO instruments and as Belgian constituents contribute actively to the ILO standard setting and application activities.

Belgium ratified in 2011 the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155), the Occupational Health Services Convention, 1985 (No. 161), the Labour Administration Convention, 1978 (No. 150) and the Employment Promotion and Protection against Unemployment Convention, 1988 (No. 168). The ILO-Brussels office hopes that this renewed action will also result in speedy internal approvals by the regions and the federal state for the ILO consolidated maritime labour Convention and by the federal state for the Convention on Domestic Workers, 2011 (No.189).
