Support to the Public Authority for Manpower in Kuwait

The ILO and the Public Authority for Manpower in Kuwait are working together to promote, ratify and apply International Labour Standards in the country.

Kuwait has ratified nineteen International Labour Conventions and is in a constant dialogue with the ILO’s supervisory bodies to improve its implementation of ILO Conventions, both by law and in practice. In an effort to enhance the capacity of the national bodies that are engaged in this dialogue, Kuwait has requested that the ILO provide assistance in training Government officials on reporting on the application of ILO Conventions and to build capacitate the social partners’ capacity so they are better able to fulfil their role in the process.

Objectives

  • Promote the ratification and application of International Labour Standards (ILS) including those related to social justice and decent work among government, social partners, and legislative bodies; and
  • contribute to the reform of labour laws and systems of labour administration and inspection to bring them in line with ILS.

Main Activities

  • Conduct seminars and workshops to disseminate information to tripartite constituents and raise awareness on matters relevant to ILS;
  • organize participatory training activities on ILS for government officials as well as representatives of workers’ and employers’ organizations on ILS reporting and ILS integration in judicial procedures;
  • provide technical advisory services to disseminate information on specific questions related to ILS among tripartite constituents; and
  • disseminate advocacy materials to institutions and its officials in order to promote ILS.

Outcomes

  • Contribute to the socioeconomic development of Kuwait through the promotion, ratification and application of ILS.
