Representatives from the Jordanian Social Security Corporation visit Turkey to exchange knowledge on the extension of coverage and universal health insurance
The five-day study visit offered insights into best practices that will support the SSC efforts in extending coverage to all workers and drafting the new health insurance bylaw.
With the support from Estidama++, funded by the Kingdoms of the Netherlands and Norway, and the EU-MADAD project “Towards an inclusive national social protection system and accelerating decent job opportunities for Syrians and vulnerable Jordanians” funded by the European Union, a five-day study visit program was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO), offering insights on the social security experience in Turkey and best practices on the extension of coverage to informal workers, including refugees and migrant workers and workers in the agriculture sector.
The ILO Ankara office provided a comprehensive overview of the social security landscape and best practices in Turkey, including the ILO and SGK Transition to Formality Programme (KIGEP), which promotes formal employment among Syrian refugees and Turkish citizens. SGK shared the different programs and modalities of their universal social health insurance system for national and non-national citizens, particularly the features relevant for vulnerable workers. Furthermore, the Jordanian delegation shared SSC’s experience in digital transformation and automatization of systems and procedures and the support programs launched in the context of the Covid-19 response.
The study visit offered insights and knowledge to support SSC’s efforts to extend mandatory coverage of social security to Jordanians and non-Jordanian workers, including the drafting of the anticipated health insurance bylaw. The program concluded with SSC and SGK discussing future collaboration and partnership.
