The ILO to hold a conference on cooperatives in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Conference will present concrete strategies to promote decent work through cooperatives.

The ILO will present “Findings of the Assessment of Service, Consumer and Handicraft Cooperatives in the West Bank: Challenges and Opportunities”. This policy brief presents concrete strategies to improve the challenging situation that workers face in the Occupied Palestinian Territory by exploring how service, consumer and handicraft cooperatives in the West Bank can be strengthened to create decent employment opportunities for women and men in the West Bank.

The findings and recommendations were derived from an assessment that was conducted in 2016 by the ILO in coordination with the Palestinian General Directorate of Cooperatives at the Ministry of Labour.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss the new strategy of the cooperative sector prepared by the Palestinian Directorate of Cooperatives with support from the ILO. Discussions will also include the role of women in cooperatives and what cooperatives can do for increasing the participation of women in the economy in Palestine.
