Kuwait and the ILO discuss the foundations of a national migration policy

ILO experts and Kuwaiti government officials meet in a two-day consultation to formulate the objectives of a national migration policy.

ILO experts and Kuwaiti government officials will attend a two-day consultation to begin the process of establishing a national migration policy in Kuwait. The consultation will assist the Government of Kuwait to define the objectives of a national migration policy and identify corresponding policy options. Good practices identified by the ILO on labour migration policy in countries of destination will also be considered for possible inclusion in Kuwaiti’s migration policy.

The consultation is part of the project ‘’Improving Labour Migration Governance and Combatting Human Trafficking in the Middle East,’’ which works to strengthen labour migration governance and combat human trafficking in the Arab region. The region is characterised by high dependence on foreign labour and pronounced labour market segmentation between nationals and expatriates, particularly with regard to employment in public and private sectors.
