Lebanon domestic workers committee bridges cultural divides through child art

Drawing competition for the children of migrant workers about "Growing up in Lebanon" launched by the Committee of Domestic Workers at the National Federation of Employees and Workers.

The ILO is supporting efforts by the recently founded Committee of Domestic Workers (CDW) at the National Federation of Employees and Workers to integrate migrant domestic workers (MDWs) social and cultural practices with those of Lebanese society through a drawing competition for children of MDWs. The “Growing up in Lebanon as Migrant Children,” competition will include thirty children of migrant domestic workers, from different countries of origin. Children will be asked to draw how they perceive Lebanon and their work will be judged according to their age group.

The event will take place on Sunday, October 13th at the FENASOL headquarters in Beirut and will be attended by diplomatic representatives from MDWs’ countries of origin.
The event is part of the ILO project entitled “Promoting Rights for Women Domestic Workers in Lebanon” (PROWD), funded by the European Union. PROWD aims to improve the working conditions of MDW in Lebanon and protect their rights by building the capacity of stakeholders and raising awareness.
