Symposium on the Jordanian Garment Industry

Better Work Jordan brings together worker, employer and government representatives to discuss proposals for a national five-year strategy for the Jordanian garment industry.

Better Work Jordan is working with governments, workers and employers to facilitate the development and implementation of a national strategy for the Jordanian garment industry. The strategy aims to ensure the sustainability of the industry and to increase its contribution to the socioeconomic development of the country, particularly by increasing the number of Jordanians employed in the sector.

Throughout 2012, BWJ has commissioned several research papers from academics and consultants specialized in both the garment industry and labour market issues. These research papers have created a knowledge base upon which stakeholders can build an effective, evidence-based national strategy.

The symposium presents these key pieces of research for stakeholder discussion and launches a participatory strategic planning process that will result in the finalization of a national five-year strategy for the Jordanian garment industry in early 2013
