Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in the World of Work

The primary goal of the ILO is to promote opportunities for women and men to obtain decent work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Gender equality is a key element in reaching this goal and is a cross-cutting policy driver for all ILO policy outcomes. ILO advances gender equality and women’s empowerment in the world of work in cooperation with various consitituents and other UN agencies.

Promoting Rights and Opportunities for People with Disabilities in Employment through Legislation (PROPEL-China)

PROPEL-China PhaseII will continue to support capacity building, and policy development in promoting training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and persons with intellectual disabilities in particular as well as providing support to the fostering of non-discrimination against people with disabilities in employment and occupation in general. The programme will also contribute to strengthened media capacity to report on the rights of persons with disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities and portray their working capacities.

The project aims at building capacity of ILO constituents and women's federations on concepts and strategies for combating employment discrimination and supporting the application of China’s labour laws at national and provincial levels.

Promoting the Employability and Employment of Persons with Disabilities through Effective Legislation Project Phase III

PhaseIII of the project “Promoting the Employability and Employment of Persons with Disabilities through Effective Legislation (PEPDEL) aims to enable the Chinese governments, social partners and disability advocates to participate in the process of preparing laws and policies, implementation and enforcement measures for the ratification and implementation of ILO Convention No. 159 concerning the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities and of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Promoting Equality at Work in China
1 June 2010 - 30 June 2011
The project will enable the ILO to work with government and civil society organizations in China to promote non-discrimination and equality in employment opportunity and treatment, through capacity building activities and sharing of knowledge and good practice. The project builds on the experience and lessons learned by the ILO in carrying technical cooperation activities targeting various groups for equality promotion in the country, including the most recent project to support and promote the application of Convention No. 111.

Support to Promote and Apply ILO Convention No. 111

The project aims to promote compliance with ILO Convention No. 111 in China in order to achieve equal employment opportunity and treatment for all workers. The project will build the capacity of ILO contituents and other social partners to promote equality at work, endeavor to improve laws and policies, labour contracts and enterprise level agreements to promote the application of fundamental principles and rights with an emphasis on non-discrimination and equality, and establish a knowledge base for knowledge and information sharing on non-discrimination.

Improve Employment Service for People Living with HIV and AIDS
1 January 2009 - 31 August 2010
The programme will cooperate with local Department of Human Resources and Social Security in Yunnan and establish a mechanism for local NGOs to refer unemployed people living with HIV to join the government programme on "Start and Improve Your Business".
