This paper provides important insights into the gender dimensions of work in factories. Many of its findings can be used to help conduct risk assessment of the health and safety conditions in factories and ensure that the very real differences between men and women, both physical and psychological, are taken into account when designing procedures and systems to protect workers against these risks. It is hoped that this paper will help both project staff, enterprise managers and practitioners in general to understand better what connections between gender, occupational safety and health, and environmental protection are and how they can be best used in sustainable enterprises.
