Validation Workshop of the Herder Programme Held in Khentii province

As part of the ILO-led UN Joint Programme (UNJP) “Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness,” ILO has three main areas of intervention towards extending social protection to herders. One of them is to support the herders to increase their income. The main objectives of the intervention are to 1) improve herder’s life skills and update their knowledge on the livestock production, 2) set up a knowledge infrastructure tailored to enable herders to access information equally.

Trade Union Delegates Prepared as Advocates for Social Protection

In Mongolia, the new labour law will be effective from January 2022. It regulates the relation between herder and assistant herder and requires a labour contract between them for the first time. Therefore, to effectively manage the contractual relationship, herders must know about concepts of freedom of association, collective bargaining, and social protection to govern their contractual relationship like standard practices in many other parts of the world.

Capacity-building Training Held for Herder Cooperatives

Social Insurance Officers Discuss Their Effort to Extend Social Protection to Herders

The ILO-led UN Joint Programme (UNJP) “Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness” has been collaborating with the Competency-Based Education Center NGO (CBE) on training social insurance officers in western provinces of Mongolia with an aim to increase the social insurance coverage of herders.

Cooperatives Use Incentive Mechanisms to Extend Social Protection to Herders

The ILO-led UN Joint Programme (UNJP) on Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness aims to demonstrate how partnerships are critical to accelerating the achievement of the SDGs by supporting the government and stakeholders to promote social protection, with a focus on having more herders be covered by social protection schemes including social insurance and reducing their vulnerabilities to poverty and extreme climate change.

Training on Extending Social Protection to Herders Held for Social Insurance Officers
23 - 25 June 2021
Training of Trainers was organized for social insurance officers from Uvs, Khovd, and Bayan-Ulgii provinces between 23 and 25 June on the topic of extending social protection to herders. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the training was held online and a total of 49 officers attended.

A Study on Herders’ Behavior towards Social and Health Insurance

“Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness” UN Joint Project, led by International Labor Organization in Mongolia is conducting a Study on Herders’ Behavior towards Social and Health Insurance research through the implementation agreement with Independent Research Institute of Mongolia NGO (IRIM) to better understand herders’ behaviors towards social and health insurance schemes.

Virtual Knowledge Exchange Meeting Held among Mongolian Herder Cooperatives

Within the framework of the “Extending Social Protection to Herders with Enhanced Shock Responsiveness” UN Joint Project led by the International Labor Organization in Mongolia, the National Association of Mongolian Agricultural Cooperatives successfully organized an online meeting to exchange experiences on improving the cooperative's governance and performances.
