Trends, characteristics and COVID-19 impact on youth not in employment, education or training (NEET) in Thailand

This report focuses on the NEET population between the ages of 15 to 24 in Thailand. The report examines the NEET characteristics, identifies the socio-economic and demographic indicators associated with NEET and analyses the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the NEET status.

As the future of the Thai economy depends on its young people, a situation where a significant number of young women and men are not in employment, education or training (NEET) represents a lost opportunity for economic development and growth. This study analyses the trends and characteristics associated with NEET youth (aged 15-24) in Thailand and also focuses on the early impact of the COVID-19 crisis on NEET status. Key findings at the national and provincial levels provide interesting insights into NEET youth and encourage the development of policies and initiatives to support NEET youth return to the labour market and into productive employment and decent work.
