Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Increasing Public Confidence and Participation in Support of Implementation of the Bangsamoro Peace Agreement

    1 December 2014 - 1 May 2016

    The aim for the project is to support the implementation of the Bangsamoro Peace Agreement in Mindanao and to share the dividends of peace in areas affected by conflict and displacement within Mindanao, including non-Bangsamoro areas. Implementation on the ground commenced in June 2015.

  2. Labour standards in global supply chains: A programme for action in Asia and the garment sector in Pakistan

    1 December 2014 - 31 March 2019

    In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains: A Programme of Action for Asia and the Garment Sector (LSGSC) project has addressed critical challenges relating to labour standards and working conditions in garment sector global supply chains (GSCs) in the Asia region, focusing on the project’s three target countries: Cambodia, Indonesia and Pakistan, as well as through global and regional components.

  3. Mt. Sinabung Recovery Support Programme (SIRESUP)

    1 December 2014 - 31 August 2016

    The Sinabung Recovery Support Programme (SIRESUP) is a joint programme in supporting the post-disaster recovery of the regions affected by the 2013 Mt. Sinabung volcanic eruptions in Karo District of North Sumatra. The joint programme is designed to improve sustainable livelihoods recovery and enhanced community resilience in affected areas through strengthening local capacity in post-disaster recovery measures, restoring livelihoods and developing economic opportunities, and incorporating risk-reduction principles.

  4. Enhancing sustainable tourism, cleaner production and export capacities in Lao People's Democratic Republic - Phase 2

    1 October 2014 - 31 March 2017

    The project aims to develop an overall competitive tourism industry through a variety of initiatives carried out by various agencies and their local counterparts

  5. Employable Skills for Improved Livelihoods of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) from North Waziristan Agency

    1 October 2014 - 31 May 2015

    In response to the request of the Government of Pakistan for support on humanitarian grounds, the UN system in Pakistan initiated a relief and rehabilitation operation for the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) from NWA.

  6. ILO/Regional Skills Programme/Japan Skills Development in Asia and the Pacific

    1 October 2014 - 31 March 2018

    The project is helping to provide solutions to many skills development issues confronting countries in the Asia and Pacific region.

  7. Employers Activities in Nepal (ACT/EMP)

    1 September 2014 - 31 December 2015

    The ILO's Bureau for Employers´ Activities is responsible for nurturing and developing the relationship between the ILO and the employers’ organizations.

  8. Responsible Industry Development in the Garment and Fisheries Sectors in Myanmar

    1 August 2014 - 31 May 2016

    Through its tripartite constituency and its other on-going initiatives, the ILO project Responsible Industry Development in the garment and fisheries sectors will work through value chain assessments, on the regulatory framework, on helping improve the capacity of the private sector and on enhancing public/private dialogue.

  9. Support to build a national social protection in Myanmar

    1 August 2014 - 28 February 2016

    The ILO’s work on social protection in Myanmar follows a two-dimensional extension strategy which aims at establishing a nationally defined social protection floor for all (horizontal dimension) and progressively ensuring higher levels of social security to as many people as possible (vertical dimension).

  10. Promotion of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work as tools for Peace in Myanmar

    1 August 2014 - 14 March 2019

    This project, which is funded by the European Union, aims to support the consolidation of the peace process through a holistic approach which will seek to address past, and prevent future, human rights abuses through the operation and extension of the Forced Labour Complaints Mechanism, the enhanced respect for International Labour Standards and national law and the promotion of the application of national and international labour standards in SEZs.

  11. The Social Security Office of Thailand and the International Labour Organization Technical Cooperation on Actuarial valuation of seven benefits under the Social Security Fund of Thailand

    1 August 2014 - 31 December 2015

    The project will contribute to the improved design, especially the coverage and the benefit package, and the long-term financial sustainability of the Social Security Fund of Thailand, as well as sustained capacity of SSO to conduct the actuarial valuation review in the future

  13. Formalizing Employment in Domestic Work: Converging Systems for Decent Work for Domestic Workers

    ILO is taking a sector-based approach to achieve legal recognition, social security provisions, and organizational rights for the domestic workers, and eventually to formalize the employment relationship in domestic work sector.

  14. Strengthening Labour Law Governance in Afghanistan

    31 July - 30 June 2014

    Through this Project, the ILO will provide technical expertise to strengthen the capacity of the country to ratify and to work collaboratively with social partners in applying international labour standards and fulfilling reporting obligations.

  15. Improving the Garment Sector in Lao PDR: Compliance through Inspection and Dialogue

    27 July 2014 - 28 February 2017

    The project aims to improve working conditions, productivity and competitiveness in the Lao garment manufacturing sector by strengthening the national labour inspection system to ensure compliance with national labour laws in line with international labour standards. The project will also improve workers’ and employers’ understanding of labour law and their role in ensuring good working conditions, while empowering factoring managers and employees to design and implement workplace improvement plans.

  16. Assessing the contribution of Korea-ILO Partnership Programme in achieving Decent Work Country Programmes in major Asian countries

    1 July 2014 - 31 May 2015

    By assessing the contribution of ILO/Korea Partnership Programme to the achievement of the Decent Work outcomes of the target countries, the project aims to identify lessons learnt and provide recommendations for extending assistance to Myanmar to support the country’s Decent Work agenda.

  17. Strengthening Skills Assessment and Certification for Afghanistan (SACA)

    1 July 2014 - 31 July 2017

    The SACA project aims to build a standardised and unified Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. This will form part of a group of internationally benchmarked National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS) and curricula, as well as standards relating to assessment, and certification and the accreditation of TVET institutes.

  18. Strengthening Capacities of Government and Social Partners to Implement National Legal Framework for Domestic Workers

    1 July 2014 - 30 April 2016

    This Project is a continuation of the International Labour Organization's (ILO) support to the tripartite-plus Technical Working Group on Decent Work for Domestic Workers (Domestic Work TWG) and to various government agencies mandated to promote compliance and implement the law.

  19. Promoting Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining

    1 July 2014 - 31 December 2015

    Freedom of association and collective bargaining rights are fundamental human rights. These rights also promote sound labour market governance and can contribute to addressing inequality and poverty. The Philippines has ratified ILO Convention Nos. 87 and 98. However, reports and decisions from the ILO’s supervisory bodies reflect restrictions on the exercise of these rights.

  20. Support to Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PCMEA) for Establishing a Carpet Weaving Training Institute in Punjab

    In partnership with the Pakistan Carpet Manufactures and Exporters Association (PCMEA), the ILO in Pakistan has revived it’s Private Public Partnership with the Association to provide technical assistance for the establishment of a Carpet Weaving Training Institute in Punjab province. The main objective of the project is to introduce workers in that sector to new skills and designs to reposition Pakistan in the international market. This will be achieved through training needs assessments as well as establishing a framework under which the institute will be established. The cooperation between the ILO and PCMEA is based on a successful partnership built during a previous project to combat child labour in the carpet industry.
