International Labour Organization and Singapore's Mininstry of Manpower renew cooperation agreement

Joint labour-related activities to support governments, employers and workers throughout the ASEAN region

Press release | Bangkok, Thailand | 23 November 2021
The International Labour Organization (ILO) and Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) have renewed their Partnership Agreement until the end of 2023.

Under the Agreement, joint technical activities will continue to support governments, employers and workers in the ASEAN region in the field of labour. Key areas of action include: occupational safety and health; fostering social dialogue and cooperation between governments, employers, and workers; as well as other labour and workplace practices. Steps will also be taken to strengthen Decent Work aspects of the ASEAN regional integration process.

The agreement was signed by Ms Chihoko Asada-Miyakawa, ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, and Mr Aubeck Kam, Permanent Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.

Mr Kam said: “Singapore is pleased to extend this Partnership Agreement with the ILO as it reflects our continued commitment to work together and support the region in preparing for the future of work, an endeavour made even more urgent by COVID-19. We will foster social dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and capability-building by working closely with tripartite partners and platforms such as the Regional Centre for the Future of Work.”

“Singapore is a valuable partner for the International Labour Organization. At a time when the region is reeling from the impact of COVID-19, we greatly welcome the ongoing commitment of Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower to share its expertise and experience to support the Decent Work agenda throughout ASEAN,” said Ms Asada-Miyakawa.

The ILO-Singapore Ministry of Manpower Partnership Agreement was first inked in June 2011, and renewed in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Recent activities held under the partnership agreement include the 2019 Singapore Conference on the Future of Work and the ASEAN Conference on the Future of Work in 2021.
