ILO's Regional Director
New ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific
Ms Tomoko Nishimoto has taken up her post as the ILO's Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific since 12 January 2015.
ILO NEWS (Bangkok) – Ms Tomoko Nishimoto has taken up her post as the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific.
Ms Nishimoto has spent more than 28 years working in sustainable development. She has held senior management positions at the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN children’s agency, UNICEF. She has worked in seven different countries as well as at agency headquarters. Her most recent assignment was at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, where she served as Director of the Division for Regional Cooperation (2010-14).
“It’s my honour to serve the ILO and its constituents; governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations” says Ms Nishimoto. “I’m looking forward to working with our renowned teams in promoting decent work for all women and men.”
Ms Nishimoto, who is from Japan, will oversee the ILO’s operations in the 34 ILO member States in Asia Pacific. She is the 12th Regional Director since the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific was established in Bangkok in 1966.
