    This workshop is to raise national awareness on pandemic human influenza, provide a forum to meet with experts and specialists and learn practical ways to reduce risk of pandemic human influenza.

  2. Agreement signing ceremony between Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and NGOs to implement child labour programmes under the ILO-DCC Action Program on Child Labour

    20 August 2009

    Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) has signed an agreement with five national NGOs namely, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Resource Integration Center, Nari Moitree, Center for Development Services and Population Services and Training Center under the ILO-DCC Action Program on Child Labour. The signing ceremony was held on 20 August 2009 at the Dhalpur Community Center of DCC.

  3. ILO celebrates the International Indigenous Peoples' Day

    A book launching programme was organized by ILO Office in Bangladesh in cooperation with the Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on the occasion of the International Day of the World's Indigenous People on 10 August 2009.

  4. 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

    9 - 13 August 2009

    Under the theme, "Empowering People, Strengthening Networks" the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), will bring together people from throughout Asia and the Pacific to share knowledge, skills, ideas, and research findings related to HIV and AIDS. During the congress, the ILO is to address workers' vulnerabilities to HIV in Asia and the Pacific including sessions on the impact of the global economic crisis on migration and HIV, skills-building sessions on communications, advocacy and stopping discrimination in the workplace. At the same time, the ILO will also examine how a new [draft] ILO human rights instrument will help address the challenge of HIV/AIDS in the region.

  3. World Day against Child labour

    Every year on June 12 activities are held throughout Asia and the Pacific to mark World Day against Child Labour. The theme for this year is: “Give girls a chance: End child labour”, and the ILO has released a new report: Give girls a chance: Tackiling child labour, a key to the future.

  4. World Day Against Child Labour 2009 in Dhaka

    11 - 12 June 2009

    World Day Against Child Labour aims to promote awareness and action to end child labour. This year we are putting special focus on the plight of girls who often endure additional hardships as victims of child labour. Support for the World Day has been growing each year and 2009 will be no exception. Various activities will be taking place around the Dhaka city involving governments, employers, workers, civil society organizations and concerned individuals who care about protecting the rights of children.     Employers are the principal market for skills. They are also part of the skills development system as developers, providers of incentives and policy-setters. They need to send the right signals to the educational and formal training establishment, and should work with the authorities to create the right policy environment that would optimise the performance of the human resources development system as a whole.

  2. Asia Pacific Conference on "Right to Form Unions and Right to Collective Bargaining: A Campaign for Ratification and Implementation of ILO Conventions 87 and 98"

    The ILO Convention 87 on Freedom of Association and the Protection of Right to Organise and Convention 98 on the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining are the basis to provide and provide for rights and protection against abuse and violation of these rights. Most of the governments in the region have not ratified either or both the Conventions. This Conference is about identifying strategies and launching an aggressive campaign for the ratification of these Conventions.

  3. Philippine Tripartite Constituents Support Decent Work for Domestic Workers: Unanimous Call for an International Convention to Set Standards
