Pacific Regional Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 - Tripartite Ratification Workshop

The workshop brings together seafarers, ship owners and government labour and maritime officers from Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu to promote the ratification and implementation of the MLC Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 in the Pacific.

The outcomes of this meeting include an increased capacity and political will of tripartite constituents to ratify and implement the MLC, Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 and strengthen tripartite networks within the Pacific maritime sector.

During this meeting the country delegations from Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu are asked to make a 20 minute presentation on their respective MLC, 2006 gap analysis. These presentations highlight the existing ‘gaps’ in their country’s maritime law and practice and how each delegation plans to address these challenges to ratification and implementation of the MLC, 2006.
