The fourth quarterly newsletter of the ILO Country Office for Viet Nam covers a range of news from the Viet Nam’s ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, the World Day Against Child Labour, Viet Nam’s delegation joining the International Labour Conference, the launching of major projects to the analysis of the safety situation in Viet Nam’s apparel industry after the Bangladesh tragedy. In this issue, the ILO also talks to President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vu Tien Loc about skills and labour productivity on the occasion of the organization’s 50th anniversary.

MOU signing between the ILO and the Government of Bangladesh
The Government of Bangladesh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on 30 May, 2013 to assist implementation of the Bangladesh country component of the Project entitled Way out of Informality: Facilitating Formalisation of Informal Economy in South Asia for a period of of 5-years (2012-2016). Mr. Md. Ashadul Islam, Additional Secretary (UN, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh and Mr. Srinivas Reddy, Director, ILO Country Office for Bangladesh signed the MOU.

Knowledge Sharing & Planning Workshop
The ILO Sub-regional Project titled Way out of informality: Facilitating formalization of informal economy in South Asia is going to organize a two-day Knowledge Sharing and Planning Workshop on 26 and 27 May, 2013 at the Hotel Sonargaon, Dhaka with the key stakeholders of the project.

ILO Director-General visits India

The Director-General of the International Labour Organization, Mr Guy Ryder, will visit India from 18 to 19 May 2013. This will be Mr Ryder’s first visit to India since he was elected on 1 October 2012.

The second newsletter of the ILO Country Office for Viet Nam focuses on the Asian and European Labour Ministers' Conference, an MoU signed between the ILO and the country's statistics office, jobs opportunities for people with disability, and improving productivity for small and medium enterprises. The newsletter also highlights gender issues in Viet Nam's new Labour Code and a new manager-staff union dialogue mechanism initiated by an ILO’s programme.

Way Out of Informality - Project launching

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) and ILO, jointly hosted a national tripartite workshop to launch the project and facilitate policy dialogue amongst the stakeholders to prioritize policies and interventions during its implementation phase.
