  1. Towards an ASEAN Sub-Regional Roadmap for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2016: Tripartite Consultative Review Meeting

    The purpose of the meeting is to validate the report and draft roadmap with ASEAN tripartite constituents. Tripartite support is sought prior to the presentation of the report to ASEAN Senior Labour Officials, from whom endorsement of the report and adoption of a target for eliminating the worst forms of child labour by 2016 and a time-bound roadmap towards that goal will be sought.

    12 June 2010 marks the World Day Against Child Labour.

  4. The Observance of the World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL 2010) in Bangladesh. “Eliminate Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2016”

    Under the overall coordination of the Urban Informal Economy (UIE) Project of ILO, Dhaka, the 9th World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL 2010), was observed in Bangladesh in a befitting manner. The most unique part of the observation was that this year’s WDACL was observed nationally under the leadership of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, ILO and UNICEF. The theme for the day was “Eliminate Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2016” and the slogan was “Let’s Eliminate Worst Forms of Child Labour, Let’s Ensure Education for All Children”

    As the football World Cup in South Africa kicked off, countries throughout Asia-Pacific marked World Day against Child Labour with an urgent appeal to "Go For the goal - end child labour".

    With the aim to celebrate the achievements of the four year ILO-IPEC Project of Support for National Action to Combat Child Labour and its Worst Forms in Thailand, a one day national seminar will be held on 10 June 2010 at Rembrandt Hotel, Bangkok.

  2. Learning centers help children reach their dreams

(Jakarta, Indonesia): Dozens of children packed inside a small house in Tugu Utara Village, North Jakarta, to enthusiastically watch a big hit movie titled Meraih Mimpi (Reaching dreams). Their eyes were glued to the screen, enjoying every scene of this inspiring film about believing in and reaching your dreams.

    (ILO Geneva & Bangkok) Amid growing concerns over the impact of the economic downturn, the ILO warned in a new study that efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour are slowing down and called for a “re-energized” global campaign to end the practice.

    (ILO BANGKOK) – The ILO is to launch a new report on the state of child labour around the world. The report is being launched on the eve of a major global meeting in The Hague, aimed at intensifying efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour within the next decade. The new ILO Global Report on Child Labour, entitled “Accelerating action against child labour” will be launched worldwide, under embargo, on 7 May.
