ILO delivers training courses on combating child labour to hazelnut-producing enterprises

ILO aims to raise awareness on child labour through capacity-building training for the field staff of hazelnut-producing enterprises

ANKARA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) continues to provide capacity-building training for the private sector to raise awareness on child labour for employees of hazelnut producing enterprises.

Under the project “An Integrated Model for the Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture in Hazelnut Harvesting in Türkiye”, the online training sessions delivered on 27 and 29 March 2023 were attended by agricultural engineers, sustainability experts and social workers from Balsu Gıda, Durak Fındık, Gürsoy Fındık, Noor Fındık, Ofi Gıda, Özyılmaz Fındık, Poyraz Fındık, Sabırlar Fındık, Yavuz Fındık and Yavuzkan Fındık enterprises operating in the hazelnut sector in the Black Sea Region.

The two-day training started with the opening remarks and introductory presentation by Senior Project Coordinator Ayşegül Özbek Kansu, and the training content was delivered by consultants Dr. Çetin Yılmaz, a faculty member of Düzce University and Dr. Abdulkadir Yüksel, a faculty member of Sivas Cumhuriyet University. The training was titled “Tools and methods to prevent child labour in seasonal migratory agricultural work” and covered four sessions on communications with children already in or under risk of child labour and families, methods of intervention, case management, awareness-raising, and advocacy.

Attended by nearly 50 participants, the two-day training was delivered online. After training, 46 participants were awarded certificates, and a participant survey was administered on training content to elicit feedback for future planning.

The project intends during the year to organize training in similar content for various target groups.
