The “Workplace Adaptation Programme (WAP)” training sessions were held online as an activity under the project “Promoting Decent Jobs for Syrians under Temporary Protection and Host Communities” implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Turkey with funding from the US Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (USBPRM).

Twenty employees from the supply chains in Istanbul participated in the online training delivered in cooperation with the Sustainability Department of Istanbul Head Office of a garment company group comprised of numerous apparel companies.

With strict COVID-19 measures taken the training programme imparted basic knowledge on labour rights, gender, occupational safety and health as ILO’s core objectives of social justice and decent work. Various interactive exercises further addressed the importance of intercultural communications in forging labour peace and social dialogue at work. Through active participation of trainees, the training programme also held discussions on such matters as access to public employment services, working hours and measures taken in response to COVID-19.

The Workplace Adaptation Programme was designed on the principles of “decent work” and “competitive and responsible enterprises” promoted globally by ILO, and customized for Turkey building on international good practices.
