Launched on 1 March 2019 to improve Turkish language skills of women beneficiaries of SADA Women Development and Solidarity Centre, the first group graduated on 8 May 2019. The first course was attended by a total of 40 women including 2 Iraqi, 1 Afghan and 37 Syrian citizens who earlier completed the A2 Turkish language course, who also engaged in entrepreneurship training and cooperative work.

The activities planned at the conversation workshop aim to strengthen women’s language skills and enable them to achieve lasting success in public space and working life. Women participants had the opportunity to practise their Turkish language skills on a range of topics including personal information and introduction, routine daily dialogues, education and working life, individual in social and urban life, information sources and media, leisure and entertainment, different cultures, invitations and celebrations, past events and history, social and current issues. Using interactive training methods and tools, women at the workshop held debates, played various games, watched movies together, and engaged in practical daily conversation on street and visiting public buildings.

The graduation ceremony for the workshop was held on 7 May 2019 at GESOB event hall. Women acted sketches, read poetry at the event, and the choir consisting of workshop participants sang songs. The joyful event was attended by 100 Syrian women attending A1 and A2 courses at the SADA Women Development and Solidarity Centre. The viewers told that their confidence in language learning built up as they watched the women from the Turkish conversation workshop perform their activities. They expressed that learning Turkish made their lives easier, boosted their self-confidence, they were no longer timid when going to a hospital, they could shop without needing assistance, and they made Turkish friends and neighbours, summarising the benefits of learning the language. The event concluded with congratulating the graduating women.
