ANKARA – The International Labour Organization (ILO), in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), started a series of training on “Public Employment Services and Basic Life Skills” in Hatay.

The training for Syrians under temporary protection and host communities aims to reach approximately 600 people in Hatay. It aims to facilitate the access of target groups to labour markets and promote their integration into working life. The training includes provision of basic information on such topics as Turkish labour legislation, employment services and job-seeking skills, information needed in daily life (traffic, urban transport etc.), training opportunities, healthcare services and gender equality.

The training series of 10 two-day sessions will continue in Hatay in April.

With the content designed by a team of academicians led by Kasım Karataş, Head of Social Services Department of Hacettepe University, the training is delivered by job and vocational counsellors from ISKUR and experts from the departments of municipalities providing special services to migrants. Enriched with activities to strengthen the sense of mutual empathy, the training also involves referring the participants to the relevant service units based on their questions.

The training is provided under “Opportunities for Lives Project”, one of the projects implemented by the ILO Office for Turkey. With the full title of “Job Creation and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Syrians under Temporary Protection and Host Communities in Turkey”, the project is implemented by ILO, coordinated by the Directorate-General for International Labour Force of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, and financed by the European Union. With certain activities undertaken by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the project aims to economically and socially strengthen Syrians under temporary protection and host communities.
