Validation workshop to adopt the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to combat child labour

Egypt, August 28, 2022 -  Dr. Tarek Tawfik, Deputy Minister of Health and Population and Secretary General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), inaugurated the validation workshop to adopt the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to combat child labour. This came within the framework of the implementation of the activities of the "Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains in Africa" project (ACCEL Africa) implemented by the International Labour Organization office in Cairo and funded by the Dutch government.

34 participants (18 men, 16 women) from relevant ministries and agencies concerned with protecting children and combating child labour participated in the workshop. During the workshop, basic concepts of child labour, monitoring and referral mechanisms, as well as case management procedures and intervention mechanisms for the various categories of children engaged in child labour, were discussed. The participants also reviewed the draft of the SOP and discussed the tasks and roles of the participating parties to start activating the child labour monitoring system to build an integrated case management system at the national and local levels through which immediate response and intervention can be made.
