Uganda

We are proud to announce the upcoming:

1. Half-day hybrid national event in Uganda on 12th June 2023, in commemoration of the International Day Against Child Labour. This event will be officiated by the Honourable Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, and will feature various activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting the elimination of child labour.

Event Highlights:
  • Statements from Key Representatives: Listen to insightful statements from the Employers and Workers Representatives, as well as the ILO Country Director. These influential voices will shed light on the importance of combatting child labour and share their perspectives on the theme for the WDACL 2023.
  • Panel Discussion: Valuable insights from experts and stakeholders, as they address critical issues and propose effective solutions.
2. National High-level Conference (Date TBC): As a follow-up to the 5th global conference in Durban, South Africa, we will be organizing a national high-level conference. This conference will bring together key stakeholders, including government ministries, employers and workers organizations, CSOs, UN agencies, NGOs, and media houses. Together, we will discuss strategies and actions to further the fight against child labour and protect children's rights.

3. TV and Radio Talk Shows (different dates): Stay tuned for engaging TV and radio talk shows leading up to the International Day Against Child Labour. These shows will focus on the theme for WDACL 2023 and serve as essential pre-event activities to raise awareness and create dialogue surrounding child labour.

Egypt

In Egypt, we are planning three insightful panel discussions on July 11, each addressing crucial aspects of the fight against child labour.

• Panel Discussion 1: Get Ahead Model
• Panel Discussion 2: SCREAM
• Panel Discussion 3: Dual System Education Model

Additionally, we will be launching several studies and awareness materials, along with the release of a Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP) by NCCM, a Waai Booklet by MOSS, and a Cooperatives Study by MOA.

Moreover, two powerful documentaries will be unveiled: SCREAM documentary by MOETE, MOSS, NGO, and Banque Misr, and Get Ahead Documentary by MOA, CRI, National Council for Women, and Banque Misr.

To celebrate the creativity and expression of children, an Arts Exhibition focused on the SCREAM initiative will be organized by an NGO.

Mali

Mali will mark the International Day Against Child Labour with activities including a televised address by the Minister of Labor and an official launch ceremony, rallying stakeholders to end child labour and promote social justice: 
  • Television Address: The Minister of Labor, Public Service, and Social Dialogue will deliver a televised address on national television (ORTM) during the 8:00 PM news bulletin on June 11, 2023.
  • Official Ceremony: A formal ceremony will take place on June 22, 2023, under the presidency of the Minister of Labor, Public Service, and Social Dialogue, at the CICB (International Conference Center of Bamako).
  • Radio/Television Reports: Reports will be broadcasted on radio and television to shed light on child labor and its consequences, aiming to inform and sensitize the public.
  • Roundtable Discussion: A roundtable discussion will be organized to address the theme of the global day, including national and international legal measures against child labour.
  • Stakeholder Workshop: A three-day workshop will be conducted to evaluate the progress and results of the ongoing projects related to the fight against child labour. This workshop will involve social partners and other actors engaged in the cause.
  • Information Caravan: An information and awareness-raising caravan will traverse the city, reaching out to different communities to disseminate information, sensitize the population, and mobilize support against child labor.

Malawi

Malawi joins the world by commemorating this year’s WDACL in Mzimba District on June 29, 2023, under its national event. The Guest of Honour for the event will be the Minister of Labour Honourable Agnes Nyalonje accompanied by high level social partners delegates. The event will feature various activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting the elimination of child labour.

Event Highlights
  • Tripartite remarks from the Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) , Malawi congress of Trade Union (MCTU) and Ministry of Labour reaffirming there commitments on child labour elimination and raising the awareness of child labour.
  • Solidarity walk/march together with government, workers, employers, community leaders and children reaffirming and symbolizing a shared commitment to end child labour.
  • Mounted Pavilions from social partners and stakeholder involved in child labour elimination demonstrating and showcasing their actions, interventions, success and lesson in the elimination of child labour.
  • Inter primary school sports competition and award ceremony raising the awareness of child labour, celebrating children’s role and role of education in the elimination of child labour.
The Malawi Tea Sector Commemorates the WDACL

The Malawi tea sector led by the Tea Association of Malawi (TAML) plan to;
  • Join the World in commemorating of this year’s World Day Against Child Labour in Thyolo District on 24th June 2023 and the Guest of Honour to grace the function will be the Minister of Labour Hon. Agnes Nyalonje and her high level delegation.
  • Events to be showcased
  • TAML and its members including district government officials and Plantation and Agriculture Workers Union from Thyolo and Mulanje will join the event’s solidarity walk from NO1 trading centre to Thyolo sports club where the main event will take place.
  • Primary schools of Mpinji and Nachipere from the district will display the dramas, poems and dances during the function
  • Tea estates and smallholder tea farmers will mount pavilions showcasing child labour elimination good practice interventions within the tea supply chains
  • TAML and its members will present to the government of Malawi through the Guest of Honour, the Minister of Labour the ACCEL Project Report that indicates the Child labour success stories that TAML has adopted as good practices in elimination of child labour in the tea supply chain.
  • TAML will present writing materials to the participating primary schools
  • Workers and smallholders will perform dances
Publicity through print media and Radio Broadcasts (Through the period of June through July)
  • ACCEL Africa together with its partners will disseminate information, education and communication materials on child labour through flyers posters and banners
  • ECAM plans to disseminate at least 15,000 bulk SMS with various child labour messages.
  • Press release by the Ministry of Labour on the World Day against child labour on June 12 2023 and press briefing.
  • Newspaper pull out commemorating the WDACL through the various actions done by the child labour stakeholders through the ACCEL Africa project and ADDRESS project
