Permanent Secretary extols ILO’s Contribution to National Development

On 5 July 2019, the ILO Country Office Director Mr George Okutho paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of National Development Planning Permanent Secretary for Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Mushuma Mulenga.

Ministry of National Development Planning Permanent Secretary for Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Mushuma Mulenga says the government stands ready to tap into ILO’s experience in the world of work in its development agenda.
And ILO Country Office Director George Okutho has reaffirmed ILO’s contribution to national development through its Decent Work Agenda.
Speaking when the ILO delegation paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Lusaka on last Friday 05/07/2019, Mr. Mulenga said his ministry has already identified areas of possible collaboration in national development with the ILO.
“We need to revisit employment projection modelling, Employment Intensive Investment Programme, employment creation and entrepreneurship skills revolving around the Future of Work. We will reach out to you so that we can have a more technical discussion and agree on the areas we can collaborate,” said Mr. Mulenga, whose portfolio also extends to Development Co-operation related issues.
Meanwhile, Mr Okutho said the ILO is a specialized UN Agency that sets standards (normative role), promote gainful employment opportunities, social dialogue and social protection; through its tripartite structure involving governments, workers and employers.
The ILO is part of the UN family in Zambia and we are committed to Delivering as One under the UN Reforms. Within the SDG Agenda 2030, ILO’s contribution is centered on Goal No. 8 Inclusive growth and decent employment, said Mr. Okutho.
