ADDIS ABABA/YAOUNDE (ILO News) – Tripartite delegates from Central African countries attended a three-day workshop organized by CRADAT, in partnership with the ILO, on strengthening capacities of constituents in promoting social dialogue as a good governance tool for sound implementation of the 20130 sustainable development goals at the national level.

From 24 to 26 February 2016 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, senior representatives from Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Chad and Central African Republic took part to the seminar aimed at supporting the capacity of constituents to better position social dialogue at the national level for design, development and implementation of public policies.

The workshop provided a platform for exchange and sharing of experiences to constituents of the countries of Central Africa in sustainable social dialogue both in situations of crisis and in time of peace.

The ILO shared with major stakeholders its key technical tools and approaches on social dialogue at community, national and sub-regional level as well as the prospects of social dialogue at the European Union level.

Many Central African countries are either fragile states, states in crisis or post- crisis states. In this context, social dialogue is seen as a modern and appropriate instrument of good governance. CEMAC reaffirmed recently the importance of social dialogue in member States. Under the auspices of this Regional Economic Community (REC), consultations were held at the sub-regional level leading to the establishment of tripartite social dialogue committee of CEMAC with an adopted action plan.

The sub-regional workshop re-engaged major stakeholders into promoting social dialogue as a best practice for building a culture of sustainable consultation and dialogue to prevent conflicts or to better manage them at both national and sub-regional levels.
