    The CRAFT Code, developed by Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) and RESOLVE, is designed to help both upstream and downstream players in the value chain assess critical social and environmental risks, with a specific focus on empowering artisanal miners to improve their practices in order to create better working environments as well as access to global markets and better trading conditions.

    The ILO Programme on Advancing Decent Work and Inclusive Industrialization in Ethiopia (SIRAYE) identified that a majority of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Ethiopian garment industry experienced low productivity and poor working conditions. To address this and to establish a robust, sustainable and inclusive compliance system, the ILO SCORE Programme piloted productivity, quality and lean production techniques in selected garment factories, with attention to continuous and measurable improvements.

The latest figures given by the International Labor Organization show child labor has increased for the first time since they started measuring twenty years ago. Today there are 160 million children in child labor.

    The Dual Education System (DES) is a unique 3-year governmental technical vocational education system that combines on-the-job training and off-the-job learning. After the 3 years, apprentices earn a technical education diploma, in addition to a local certificate from the investors' association or the authority supervising on-the-job training, which facilitates the apprentices' professional career. Apprenticeship contracts did not specify the hours of training at the company level. In addition, the rights and responsibilities of apprentices in the workplace are not known, which can lead to them performing hazardous work and experiencing the worst forms of child labor.
