  1. ILO’s engagement in the Horn of Africa drought crisis

    25 August 2011

    ILO has established a solid, broad operational basis across the three administrations governing Somalia at present, including through strategic partnerships with UN agencies (UNOPS) as well as local organizations. The ILO has successfully delivered essential social protection and productive cash transfers to conflict-torn areas of Somalia since 2006, mainly through employment-intensive community infrastructure investment projects. The ILO is also very well positioned to operate in the other affected regions of Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.

  2. Month of the women entrepreneur in Lesotho

    The Month of the Women Entrepreneur (MOWE) in Lesotho promoted Women Entrepreneurs as role models through highlighting three obstacles every Micro and Small entrepreneurs faced daily; access to information, access to registration and access to finance

  3. Training course on International Labour Standards and judicial independence and ethics for labour court judges, conciliators, arbitrators and lawyers in Zimbabwe

    25 - 30 July 2011

    The main objective of the course was to equip judges, conciliators, arbitrators and lawyers with the knowledge that will enable them to use international labour law sources to resolve labour disputes, and to carry out this task guided by the principles of judicial independence and ethics.

  4. Training for Zimbabwe State Actors on International Labour Standards

    The workshop is a first in a series of activities that will be aimed at training key state actors for the full respect of human and trade union rights and to enable the elaboration and promulgation of clear lines of conduct in this regard

    The Women Entrepreneurship Development training is aimed at improving the skills of staff in the Department of Labour (DoL) to enable them to provide effective services to women entrepreneurs.

  6. Training of Trainers on business growth in South Africa

    The WEDGE South Africa project rolled out a Training of Trainers for the Action my Business Growth (AMG) tool. The AMG tool is a NEW tool to be used for growth oriented women entrepreneurs (GOWEs).

  7. Africa/France Conference: Corporate Social Responsibility, a pathway to growth & employment creation

    11 - 12 July 2011

    The Conference showcased best practices and partnerships to develop Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) awareness among African governments and within companies operating in the African region. High-level business leaders from around Africa, Presidents and CEOs of African Business Organizations, members and partners of MEDEF, representatives of multinational enterprises operating in Africa, UN agencies, World Bank, African Union, African Development Bank, as well as French and African Government officials adopted a Declaration of Commitment to engage practically in CSR initiatives, to fight corruption and promote good governance. Participants agreed on a Roadmap for developing sustainable enterprises in Africa to foster job creation, through a practical CSR training programme for business organizations and companies in Africa.

  8. ILO Donors meeting on “Creating decent work opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa”

    The meeting is to bring together representatives from the MENA countries, the international community, donors who are interested in lending support to those countries, and ILO constituents in general.

  9. Managing Social Security and Pensions in South Africa

    4 - 8 July 2011

    The Graduate School of Public and Development Management at the University of the Witwatersrand, in partnership with the International Labour Office (ILO), hosted an interactive debate on South African Social Security. The workshop was also intended to encourage ILO Constituents to undertake a self- assessment regarding gender equality.

  10. National Multi-stakeholder workshop on Employment policy in Namibia

    The objective of the National Multi-stakeholder workshop on Employment policy was to bring all major stakeholders around the table and formulate strategies and solutions on how to best respond to the challenge of employment and unemployment in Namibia in order to formulate a new Namibian Employment Policy.
