  1. Youth Employment Summit in South Africa

    7 - 8 May 2012

    The Youth Employment Summit was held under the theme of Decent Work for Youth. The Summit served as a platform for young people, policy-makers and the social partners to exchange views on the national youth employment situation and to share good practice. The Summit was also intended to help raise awareness on the urgency of promoting decent work for youth.

  2. ILO promotes the Know about Business (KAB) training

    7 - 11 May 2012

    Some twenty two young men and women attended the interactive platform of the ILO Know about Business (KAB) Training at the Ilanga Estate in Bloemfontein. The aim was to nurture their entrepreneurial culture, start ventures and create decent jobs.

  3. Training of Trainings (TOT) workshop for Labour Officers on Human Trafficking and Forced Labour

    2 - 6 May 2012

    ILO Country Office, Abuja together with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity organized a 3 day Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop for labour officers at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja – Lagos. The workshop aimed to build capacities of Labour Officers and Inspectors to enable them identify forced labour, human trafficking and smuggling activities and what appropriate actions to take

  4. World Day for Safety and Health at Work in 2012: Promoting safety and health in a green economy

    The 2012 World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on the promotion of occupational safety and health (OSH) in a green economy. There is a shift in the world to a greener and more sustainable economy. However, even if certain jobs are considered to be “green”, the technologies used may protect the environment but not be safe at all.

  5. The World Day of Occupational Safety and Health

    In light of its commitment to raise awareness of efficient strategies to guarantee safety and health at the workplace, ILO celebrates the World Day of Occupational Safety and Health. In 2012 the focus is on 'Promoting Occupational Safety and Health in Green Jobs', in line with encouraging green jobs and a green economy towards sustainable economic and social development.

  7. International Conference on Youth Employment in the Mediterranean Region

    25 - 26 April 2012

    This major international conference was organized by the Foundation Education for Employment (EFE) on 25-26 April 2012 in Madrid, Spain. Participants including the Spanish Ministry of Labour and the Spanish Agency of Cooperation and Development (AECID), the Casa Arabe-IEAM and the ILO - represented by Charles DAN, Regional Director for Africa - discussed ways and means to address one of the most important political and socio-economic challenges in the area: how do we create employment opportunities for youth in the Mediterranean region?

  8. Employment for Stability and Socio-Economic Progress in North Africa

    18 - 19 April 2012

    A High Level Interactive Conference, under the theme “Employment for Stability and Socio-Economic Progress in North Africa”, was held on 18-19 April in Cairo, Egypt to build consensus among stakeholders and development partners on the key priorities and actions required to implement an employment-centred and rights-based approach for stability and growth in the sub-region.

  9. ILO Assists Nigeria on updating the National Occupational Classification

    10 - 12 April 2012

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) assessed the current state of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in Nigeria and made recommendations for its comprehensive review, the development of National Occupational Standards, Quality Assurance Instruments and a Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism as well as Institutional Capacity Building.

  10. ILO Gateway: Knowledge sharing, Joint Planning and Implementation

    3 - 4 April 2012

    Regional Task forces, which report to the Knowledge Management Steering Committee, met to discuss ways and means to improve information and knowledge management to meet constituents’ increasing demands to improve the quality of services rendered by the ILO in 2012-13.
