Global Youth Employment Forum 2019: Today and Tomorrow with Decent Jobs for Youth

To celebrate 100 years of continuous work in promoting decent work and advancing social justice, and to reinvigorate the Call for Action, the ILO organizes the Global Youth Employment Forum, to be held in Abuja, Nigeria on 1-3 August 2019, under the auspices of the Government of Nigeria.

The Forum will be the second of its kind, following a successful event held in Geneva in 2012, when young people from different regions and backgrounds shed light on the challenges and opportunities to foster decent work for youth. Their voices contributed to the adoption of the Call for Action.

Forum Objectives

The 3-day Forum will serve as a space to:
  • Amplify youth voices, aspirations and expectations and invite perspectives of constituents and other stakeholders on advancing the Call for Action in the period 2020-2030;
  • Reflect on sectors and occupations that will provide productive employment and decent work opportunities for young women and men, and the emerging challenges for youth labour market transitions;
  • Facilitate an intra- and inter-generational sharing of experiences and knowledge on innovations and actions boosting productive employment and decent jobs for youth along with gender equality, rights, standards, and voice and representation; and
  • Solicit concrete commitments for action, impact and partnerships across the globe.
