ILO’s engagement in the Horn of Africa drought crisis

ILO has established a solid, broad operational basis across the three administrations governing Somalia at present, including through strategic partnerships with UN agencies (UNOPS) as well as local organizations. The ILO has successfully delivered essential social protection and productive cash transfers to conflict-torn areas of Somalia since 2006, mainly through employment-intensive community infrastructure investment projects. The ILO is also very well positioned to operate in the other affected regions of Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.
