  2. National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) of Zambia signs Memorandum of Understanding with Seven (7) Informal Sector Associations

    The International Labour Organization witnessed the signing of MoUs between the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and seven informal sector associations at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia, on 9th August, 2018. The joint signing ceremony was to facilitate extension of social security coverage to informal sector workers.

    Despite efforts to create a harmonised and coordinated approach to social protection, challenges remain with regards to the integration of the various social protection programmes, which continue to operate in relative isolation both at the national and district levels. In in the context of the 2016–2017 review of the Malawi National Social Support Programme (MNSSP), this study was commissioned to examine current institutional coordination issues within Malawi’s social protection sector, identify the factors behind the persistent fragmentation of the MNSSP, and to present options for improving institutional coordination and coherence within the MNSSP II, the successor programme to the MNSSP, both at national and at decentralized levels of implementation
