The International Labour Organisation (ILO) jointly with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Food Program (WFP) are implementing a “Social Protection for the SDGs in Malawi: Accelerating inclusive progress towards the SDGs” project. The two year project (January 2020 to December 2021) is aimed at ensuring that the Malawi Social Protection System is adapted to meet emergency food needs together with the humanitarian sector to reduce the vulnerability of those left behind. Further the joint program supports the development of a financing ecosystem and national financing infrastructure toward increased domestic resource mobilization. The project is also supporting the review of the Malawi National Social Support Policy which was adopted in 2012. The process responds to the many changes that have occurred to the landscape in social protection sector. Among others, more programs have been designed and are being implemented, more partners have joined the sector and other policy documents such as the Malawi National Social Support Program and Malawi Growth and Development have been revised. The country has also adopted the Vision 2063 which spells out collective aspirations and development goals of the people of Malawi.
