Post 2015 Expert Consultation on Growth and Employment

The ILO and UNDP convened a Post 2015 Experts Consultative Meeting on "Growth and Employment".

The ILO and UNDP convened a Post 2015 Experts Consultative Meeting on "Growth and Employment". The half day meeting drew over 35 participants representing various segments of society including Government, Workers and Employers Organisations, Academia, Media and Youth. The participants to the Experts Consultation agreed on the need to shape a sustainable goal around employment, wealth creation and inclusive growth with appropriate and measurable indicators.

Other outcomes of the experts consultative meeting in shaping the Post 2015 Agenda called for concerted action based on already known and existing approaches, policies, programs and strategies. This includes parallel implementation of approaches aimed at increasing the participation of the larger majority in economic life and extending social protection to those that cannot participate actively, the creation of a competitive and vibrant workforce through skills development at all levels i.e. Primary, Secondary, Tertiary with emphasis on vocational skills development. In addition, the need to facilitate the growth of economies through the linking of Foreign Direct Investment to the Domestic Economy as well as harnessing Value Chain potential in the various sectors of the economy were also highlighted as a key approaches.

The Post 2015 Consultative process was launched by the First Lady, Dr.Christine Kaseba on 25th October 2015 during the United Nations 67th Anniversary.
