  1. Tanzania to host an International Conference on social protection for equitable growth

    The ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas Chapinga Chuma is attending a three-day international conference on Social Protection focused on “Building Effective and Sustainable Systems for Equitable Growth” to be held from 15-17 December 2014 in Arusha, Tanzania.

  2. Trade union unity and principles of freedom of association in Eastern Africa

    Freedom of association refers to the right of workers and employers to create and join organizations of their choice freely and without fear of reprisal or interference. This includes the right to establish and affiliate to confederations and international organizations. Linked to freedom of association is the right to collective bargaining, which allows workers to negotiate their working conditions freely with their employers.

    This study aims at developing an in–depth understanding of the child labour phenomenon in selected pastoralist communities with the aim of informing the formulation and/or revision of public policies and programmes on education and child labour elimination.

  6. Skills and Employment for Peace in South Sudan

    The initiative will develop young men and women’s technical and business skills through established skills centres as well as mobile units. In doing so, the project will contribute towards national efforts in laying the economic foundations to reduce marginalization and competition over scarce resources.

  7. TACKLE end of project global stakeholders workshop

    'TACKLE', Tackling child labour through education, is a joint project of the European Commission and the ILO with the support of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP). Launched in 2008, TACKLE aims at fighting child labour in 12 countries. An end of project global workshop takes place in Brussels on 2 and 3 July 2013.

  8. South Sudan ratifies ILO Convention No. 138 and No. 182

    17 December 2012

    South Sudan's ratification of the ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No.138) and the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No.182) has now been formally registered.
